Having moved three times in Florida, then Maine, next Utah, onto Australia & finally ending up in Woodbridge, Virginia, needless to say I am accustomed to military relocation and finding a new home. Consequently, I am very familiar with the process of buying and selling homes and the associated emotional roller-coaster that goes with it.
Each time we moved, we had to purge and stage our home (kinda like a beauty queen). It takes time to get everything showroom ready. So, if you have found the home of your dreams, then it’s time to get your house ready to sell too. Put in a couple hours a day and some long weekends and your home will be move-in ready in 30 days. Let me show you how to do get your home ready to sell by breaking everything into manageable chunks starting with Day One.
Day 1- Walk around your house and property with a clipboard and paper and pen. Make two columns- one you fix it, the other a contractor fixes. Then, get on the phone and start calling for estimates. In the Prince William County area, it can take some time to get work completed. By calling contractors early to come out for an estimate, you are more likely to ensure your home is ready on Open House Day. Also, by making a column of items you can fix, you will save time and money. If you get all materials ready today, you can knock out projects if you have a few minutes or an hour to spare on other days.
